The latest Warhammer 40k: Darktide update has brought with it the new Refine Item feature at the Shrine of the Omnissiah. In actual gaming terms, this is Perk rerolling. But of course, with Darktide being a 40k game, it can’t just be an intuitive and player-friendly process.
So let’s delve into the new Refine Item function and how it works, because any and all Rejects are going to be spending some time hitting that Refine button.
How to Refine Items in Darktide
Refining / Rerolling Blessings is where the fun of optimizing your builds really kicks in, but rerolling Perks will have to do for now. Head over to the Shrine of the Omnissiah to bother Hadron Omega-7-7 and get ready for some frustration. Unless, of course, you get very lucky from the start.
You can only reroll a single Perk on a weapon or Curio. When you choose a Perk to refine, the others are locked in and cannot be altered. Choose wisely.
Refinement Costs
Each tier of weapon or Curio has a base refinement cost, and each refinement reroll lowers that base cost. The more you reroll a single Perk, the less it costs. It stings a bit less, but the process is still costly in both Diamantine and Plasteel if you get particularly unlucky.
- The base cost to refine Anointed (blue) gear is 55 Plasteel.
- The base cost to refine Exalted (purple) gear is 10 Diamantine and 65 Plasteel.
- The base cost to refine Transcendant (orange) gear is 25 Diamantine and 75 Plasteel.
How to Discern Perk Tiers
Almost every Perk has different tiers, though some can be static and set to a single tier. To tell at which tier a Perk is, you need only to look at the diamond-shaped icons to the left of the Perk.
At the time of writing (December 2022), this only goes up to Tier 4 for Perks. Additionally, I have not seen anything lower than Tier 3 on my level 30 Skullbreaker, but gear obtained at lower levels does have lower tier perks.
You may notice that Curio Blessings are marked with what appears to be five diamonds, just the middle (fifth) one has been laid over the others. It’s very possible this will be the future mark for Tier 5 Perks, though these are yet to be implemented and for now this indicator is meaningless and only on Blessings.
It’s going to be some time until the Re-Bless and Earn Blessing options are added to Darktide, which will be far more impactful than Perk refinement. But rerolling Perks is just what is needed to deal with Curios that could be perfect, if not for that pesky +Experience Perk.
That’s it on how to reroll / refine Perks in Darktide, which is just as RNG-heavy as the rest of the gear progression system. Check out our other Darktide guides for more tips.
