Having a full team sounds good in theory, but you need to be mindful of everyone’s positions. Indeed, roles are important, and knowing how to put a comp together is even more important. Here’s our guide on the best formations in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.
How to Set Custom Formations in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
To create custom formations, simply select any of the options, then hold the Shift key or equivalent on PS5 and Xbox. This allows you to freely move the character’s portrait, which also corresponds to their position on the battlefield. You can see one example below:
Tips and Tricks for the Best Rogue Trader Formations
The best formations in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader are, funny enough, those that are purely custom-made by the player. Here’s why:
- You can open the menu and select the Formation option to see six setups that are available by default. These include a linear-type setup, a triangle, and even a circular one.
- The problem is that these tend to be fairly rigid, which is why I can’t recommend any of them.
As you may have noticed above, I had Abelard up front since he’s a tank. Cassia, Sister Argenta, and Idira were positioned in the wings due to their roles. Cassia can pull enemy mobs closer and blast them with a frontal cone spell, whereas Idira’s chain lightning requires her to have clear line of sight on enemies.
Sister Argenta, meanwhile, can be repositioned so she can hit more hostiles with her burst fire. I also placed Pasqal and the Rogue Trader at the back. The former is a sniper who also debuffs opponents, while the latter is my support unit that grants boosts to allies.
I should warn you, however, that your formation may suddenly change when you have a different party composition (i.e. having a new set of companions in your squad). As such, I suggest checking the panel from time to time just to be safe.
That’s how to make the best formation in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Since we’re already talking about your party’s setup, you might want to know how to respec characters during the campaign. For other tips and tactics, you can check out our WH40K: RT guides hub.
