Eventually, you'll need to buy Thieves' Tools in Baldur's Gate 3. Here's where to get them in each Act.

Thieves’ Tools are one of the most useful items in BG3. Whether trying to get through a locked door or open a chest, lockpicks are essential. But they’re hard to come by. Here’s where to buy Thieves’ Tools in Baldur’s Gate 3, Acts 1, 2, and 3.

How to Get Thieves’ Tools in Every Act of BG3

If you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 for any length of time as I have, you’ll know that you can’t just get lockpicks from anywhere. Sometimes you’ll find them as loot, but if you run out of them, you can’t count on finding them randomly throughout Faerun. Instead, you’ll need to buy them from merchants.

Act 1 has the most vendors that sell Thieves’ Tools in all of BG3. If you plan on breaking into a lot of places, as I like to do, I recommend stocking up here. If you have a Rogue in your party, they’ll make the most use of them, but simply having them on hand at any given time is a boon.

To get Thieves’ Tools from the vendors, you can spend your hard-earned gold or trade items. However, I like to spend gold elsewhere and sell items for more gold, so I channel my inner thief and steal the tools for myself. If you decide to go that route, make sure you’re hidden and have a high Sleight of Hand skill. Regardless of how you get them, here are all the locations and vendors that sell Thieves’ Tools in Act 1.

  • Druid Grove: Arron and Mattis.
  • Myconid Colony: Derryth Bonecloak.
  • Shattered Sanctum: Roah Moonglow.
  • Toll House: Cyrel.
  • Zentarim Basement: Brem.

Where to Purchase Thieves’ Tools in Act 2

Unfortunately, there’s only one merchant in Act 2 that sells Thieves’ Tools: Roah Moonglow in Moonrise Tower. So unless you stocked up in Act 1 or found some lying around, this is the only place to get more.

Where to Get Thieves’ Tools in Baldur’s Gate Act 3

Even though Act 3 has plenty of stores once you enter Baldur’s Gate, there actually aren’t a lot of places to buy Thieves’ Tools. You can only get them from Sticky Dondo in Guildhall or Glynda Oltower in Wyrm’s Crossing.

That’s where to buy Thieves’ Tools in Baldur’s Gate 3 Acts 1, 2 and 3. Never let a door or locked chest stop you ever again. Take what you want, and go where you please. For more tips and tricks, check out our BG3 guides hub for topics like best magic items and best Honour Mode builds.
