Sea of Thieves will be making its way to the PS5 on April 30, 2024. However, the game already has a massive player base. If you’ve been wanting to play with your friends who have been on Xbox, you may be wondering: Will Sea of Thieves be Crossplay on PS5?
Sea of Thieves: Is it Cross-Platform?
Microsoft is bringing its live-service game Sea of Thieves to PS5 owners after being an Xbox and PC exclusive since 2018. This will be Rare’s first time working with Sony. Although the studio has had a long history working with Nintendo and Microsoft, no Rare Studios games have appeared on PlayStation. Rare has also announced that you can add Sea of Thieves to your wishlist on the Playstation Store.
This opens up the high seas to a vast new audience. Luckily, Sea of Thieves will have crossplay between PS5, Xbox, and PC. So there’s no need to worry that you won’t be able to play with your friends who have been on other systems. You’ll also have instant access to the millions of players who are already playing the game.
The PS5 version of Sea of Thieves will also be getting the same free content updates that regularly come to the game. When this version releases, players will have immediate access to new Voyages, new islands with story-focused Tall Tales, and Safer Seas, a brand new mode meant to help newcomers get used to the game. Rare also stated that it “[has] plans to keep adding features and improving the experience for a long time yet.”
That answers the question: Will Sea of Thieves be Crossplay on PS5? You’ll be able to sail the high seas with everyone on PS5, Xbox, and PC. If you want to prepare for its release on April 30, 2024, check out our dedicated Sea of Thieves guides hub.
