Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) — Gloom-Borne Illness Side Quest Guide

Here's how to complete the Gloom-Borne Illness quest in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gloom is the icky, creepy, red substance that has tainted the lands of Hyrule, and depletes your hearts if you come into contact with it. I didn’t know much about countering the substance until after I completed Gloom-Borne Illness, and it’s already proven useful in my Chasm encounters. Here’s how to complete the TotK Gloom-Borne Illness side quest.

You can initiate the quest by speaking directly to Lasli, who is sitting by a cooking pot in Kakariko Village, southeast of Central Hyrule. You’ll find a map above with her exact location, and her coordinates are 1908, -1003, 0127.

You’ll be the small-town hero for this quest, and cook up a cure for Lasli’s beloved Grandmother. You’ll learn when talking to Lasli that her Grandmother’s health isn’t what it used to be because she got too close to Gloom, and she needs some Porridge to feel better. Here’s what you need to do:

Gloom-Borne Illness Porridge Recipe

  • Hylian Rice: Can be bought or harvested, find all you need to know in our guide here.
  • Fresh Milk: Hateno Village’s General Store (3357, -2152, 0118).
  • Sundelions: You aren’t told which plant specifically, just vaguely wild greens, but you’ll need Sundelions for their gloom-curing properties. You can find them in high-altitude areas, also known as Sky Islands. For the easiest farming, head to Great Sky Island via Shrine.

  • Once you’ve got all of the ingredients you’ll need to head back to Lasli. You can get there quickly with the Makasura Shrine.
  • Approach the cooking pot.
  • Go into your inventory and select all of the ingredients by choosing X to hold then A to select them.
  • When all are selected, exit the inventory and press A to throw them in.
  • You’ll cook a Sunny Veggie Porridge, give the Porridge to Lasli by talking to her.
  • Lasli will give the Porridge to her Grandmothers, curing her from gloom.
  • You’ll receive an Energizing Veggie Porridge as your reward, and of course, the feel-good karma of curing her grandma.
