The series staple Master Sword is present in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. With Breath of the Wild‘s durability system intact in TotK, not even the Master Sword is exempt from some limitations. Luckily, it doesn’t quite work like the other weapons you’ll find on your travels. So can the Master Sword break in TotK?
Does the Master Sword Break in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)?
The answer here isn’t as clear as you might hope. The Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t have the same durability as other weapons, but the Recharge Mechanic acts like a type of durability.
Much like Zonai Devices, the Master Sword has a Recharge Mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom. Once the Master Sword’s charge runs out, it isn’t broken exactly, but you’ll need to wait for about 10 minutes for it to fully recharge.
At worst, I found this mechanic to be inconvenient. Having my weapon inventory expanded through the use of Korok Seeds helps since I could swap out to a different item while the Master Sword recharged. However, the power of the Master Sword can make other weapons fall flat. But that same power is why it makes sense to add a mechanic that makes you think about when and how you want to use the Master Sword.
Like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom is a massive game with plenty to do and discover. To help, we have plenty of Tears of the Kingdom guides available for topics such as the best main quest order, where to find Skeleton Horses, and how to complete various shrines like Long or Wide.
