The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Dondons are mysterious creatures that glow at night. They’re an interesting horned beast that can provide you with gems (of all things) if you know what you’re doing. And you’ll need gems to craft certain items and make more Rupees. But where do you find their locations? You could spend your time running around and fast traveling like I did, or you could use our guide on where to find TotK Dondons below.
How to Find Dondons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Dondon locations are incredibly rare — so rare that only five exist in Tears of the Kingdom. The creatures can only be found in one area: in a pen south of Bronas Forest at the coordinates (-1571, -3353, 0060). The location is directly north of Lakeside Stable on the other side of Floria River and marked on my in-game map image above.
How to Get Gems from TotK Dondons
To get Gems from Dondons, follow these steps:
- Hold a Luminous Stone from your inventory.
- Drop it in front of the Dondon to feed it.
- Wait around 20 real-time minutes.
- The time limit isn’t exact, but leaving and completing other tasks for at least 20 minutes guarantees a drop and keeps you from traveling back and forth or wasting time.

Dondon Gem Types Explained
The gems you get from TotK Dondons are random. There were plenty of times I simply got Flint (wow). However, if you’re lucky, you could also get a Diamond! So, much like Zonai Dispensers, getting gems from Dondon is a bit of a gamble.
If you’re having trouble getting the gems to appear, I learned you’ll need to leave the area and return. Resting at the nearby fire will also accomplish this, but it will not replace the real-time requirement.
