The Fashion Contest is back again in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. To prepare, you’ll be making cloth to tailor clothes, visiting the hairdresser, and tweaking your general appearance with the Lulukoko guardian spirit.
Okay so maybe the last two have little to no effect on the contest, but they’re still integral for the fashion conscious of us out there. After all, who wants to cosplay as Princess Peach with blue hair? (…On second thought, don’t answer that.)
How to Tailor Clothes in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
Before you can even begin tailoring clothes, you must first upgrade your house to get a proper closet. After you unlock Lulukoko halfway through your first Spring, you can stop by the Jack-of-all-Trades Shop with the required lumber from Westown’s Material Shop to upgrade your house. Thankfully the first upgrade is relatively cheap, so you can easily accomplish this well before you unlock Tsuyukusa and the clothes tailoring tutorial.
As soon as you upgrade your house, Miranda at the General Store in Westown and Ludus at the Jack-of-all-Trades shop in Lulukoko begin offering their tailoring services, each with their unique cultural styles. However, you can’t just buy the clothes out of pocket, you also have to offer the appropriate cloth.
Cloth is not easy to get a hold of early on. At this point, it’s a good idea to focus on building a bigger barn so you can buy Sheep and start sheering them with the Clippers tool. Be on the lookout for Suffolk, Alpaca, and Angora, among other animals, and pick them up early. Check out our Beginner’s Guide and Daily Routine Guide for tips on taking care of livestock.
You’ll want to build up your stock of wool for when you eventually build the Textile Mill at the Jack-of-all-Trades shop. At the Textile Mill, you can take the wool you gathered and turn it into cloth. You can also use things like berries and flowers to dye the cloth.
Check the tailoring shops in each town to identify what you want to make and focus on making the cloth needed for it first. Once you have your cloth, head into town and make the order. It will take them a day to tailor it so make sure you come back the next day and pick it up.
How to Change Your Hair and Appearance
Sometime after you unlock Tsuyukusa in the early Summer, you’ll awake one morning to be introduced to Saku, the Hairdresser. She can change your hairstyle and hair color for a small fee, and she stays open much later than other Tsuyukusa shops.
Eventually, you’ll have been introduced to Lulukoko’s guardian spirit, Witchie, who offers to change your appearance if you hold a native Lulukoko crop and give it to her. She has the power to change the color of your Skin, the look of your Face, and the color of your Eyes.
Fashion Shows in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
Fashion Contests come around once a year on Fall 22nd. Like other festivals, it’s sectioned off by experience level. The Beginner category doesn’t have a theme so feel free to slap whatever you want to your first Fashion Contest. I won it by wearing a basic kimono and some blue glasses.
Beyond your first year, MC will visit you the morning of Fall 2nd and tell you about the contest themes for the season, including the Fashion Festival. Make note of the theme and work towards making as many different outfits as you can with that theme in mind.
When you reach the day of the festival, save your game by your closet before entering. If you don’t win, take note of the winner’s outfit and see if you can match it. If you can’t, try again with another outfit and continue to study the competition.
That’s everything a budding fashionista needs to know about making clothes and winning in Fashion Contests. Check out our Crops and Animals Guide and Cooking Exhibition Guide if you’re looking to get into those contests, too!
