Assassin’s Creed Trailer Teases Something No One Expected

Will the newest big budget videogame movie be a something worth seeing, or just another box office bomb?
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

As any video game fan knows, movies based on video games have a pretty dismal track record. DoomPrince of PersiaTomb Raider, and Resident Evil to name a few have not set the highest bar at the box office. But the new trailer from Ubisoft and Fox for Assassin’s Creed, due out in December, seems to be heading in the right direction.

From the opening shot, a mystery is afoot. Marion Cotillard’s enigmatic Abstergo employee tells Micheal Fassebender’s character, Callum Lynch, that through their genetic memory simulator, The Animus, he is about to experience the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar, and go back to the time of…

…The Spanish Inquisition. From there on, everything looks right on the money with the Assassin’s Creed mythology: hidden bladed stabby stabs; mysterious female sidekicks; deceptive Abstergo dealings, and best of all, jumping off of really, really tall buildings.

There’s no way to know if this will be another video game based box office failure or the first big budget game movie to make a splash cinemaside, but either way, it looks like the spirit of the Assassins is here in December.
