Most players just hold their shield up until it goes down after taking too much damage, at which point they charge into the fray hoping to survive long enough to recharge their shield so they can rinse and repeat. This isn’t the proper way to play him. 

Obviously you want to stay out in front but you need to use your shield sparingly. Keep it up when possible but know when to back off so it can recharge. It’s also extremely important to not charge a lone enemy when it means abandoning your team when they’re dependent on your blocking.
