The hype intensifies as Konami reveals another action-packed, revenge-filled trailer.

Metal Gear Solid fans have been graced with a steady stream of news and hype ever since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was first announced in 2013. We have seen nothing but good things to expect from this game with each new story and gameplay trailer revealed.

However, as great as it was to see another trailer for MGSV, this trailer, like the previous ones, seems to leave us hanging once again with more questions than answers.

Right off the bat, we are reminded that this is the final Metal Gear Solid game in the franchise as “The end of an era” appears across the screen. We cannot help but wonder if this refers to the Metal Gear franchise ending or if it refers to Hideo Kojima leaving Konami or even Big Boss himself.

This trailer certainly feels devoid of any Kojima influence, which differs greatly from the previous trailers. This trailer feels moreso like a generic action trailer, showing of CQC takedowns from the game and regurgitating lines from previous trailers and a generic “Stop the bad guy!” motif when referring to the game’s villain, Skullface.

We get another glimpse at who appears to be a young Psycho Mantis and an unknown, flaming figure alongside him. Many fans speculate that this flaming man is Volgin from Metal Gear Solid 3, while others suspect that he is a hallucination created by psycho Mantis or something entirely different.

We are also reminded that by the end of this game, our beloved Big Boss may end up alone as a broken hero as we hear Revolver Ocelot say “From here on out, you’re on your own.” This is also reaffirmed when we hear Big Boss once again say, “When the time comes, I’ll pull the trigger,” referring to the mysterious sniper, Quiet. Burning with revenge, one thing remains clear: before this is over, a lot of people have to die.
