The news comes straight from developer Guerilla Games. Forbidden West Director Mathijs de Jonge revealed the release date at the end of an approximately 3-minute video released via the official PlayStation Youtube on June 17. You can see the entire clip below.

Horizon Forbidden West (once referred to as Horizon: Zero Dawn 2), is set in the American West, specifically in the region between “Utah and the Pacific Ocean.” It features vicious (and gorgeous) new machines, as well as new tribes.

Loading screens may also be a thing of the past. de Jong that “with the PS5’s SSD, there will be virtually no loading screens… if you open the map and fast travel from end to the other, restarting from a checkpoint will be super fast.” de Jong went on to say that the Horizon Forbidden West map is large, playing host to “valleys, deserts, and ruin cities full of ruined landmarks.”

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Horizon Forbidden West, but many of us around the office are certainly excited for it. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on the HZD sequel as we learn it.
