Remember when Darkest Dungeon 2 was announced about 500 years ago in 2019? It’s ok if you don’t; there’s been nothing from developer Red Hook Studios on the sequel to the indie dungeon-crawling RPG in that time. However, Red Hook has broken its silence by sharing news that Darkest Dungeon 2 will release in Early Access in 2021.
The news comes from a post on the official Darkest Dungeon Twitter account. An exact date for the Early Access release wasn’t shared, but the trailer that accompanied the announcement revealed that Darkest Dungeon 2 will release on the Epic Games Store first.
Darkest Dungeon II is coming in 2021!
It’s time to face the failures of the past.

A follow-up tweet from the developers said that the game will remain exclusive to the EGS throughout Early Access, only releasing “on other PC storefronts” at full launch, whenever that may be. That same tweet said that Red Hook has “not finalized our console plans yet,” meaning that any consoles ports, such as one for the Nintendo Switch, may still be a ways off.
We hoped that the hard-as-nails horror-tinged RPG would release sometime in 2020, but it looks like fans will have to wait just a bit longer. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on Darkest Dungeon 2, including its release date, in the coming months.
