Today, publisher THQ Nordic announced on Twitter that it has obtain the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur IP from Electronic Arts and 38 Studios.
Along with the original game and the rights to make more titles set within the universe, THQ Nordic also has the rights to the unused assets of the planned Kingdoms MMO that was in development before 38 Studios was shut down in 2012.
THQ Nordic currently has not yet announced any plans for the IP.
The only game in the franchise, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, was released back in 2012. Despite meeting critical praise, currently sitting at an 80 on Metacritic, Kingdoms of Amalur failed to make back it’s budget and was considered a financial failure.
