Today at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Blizzard announced the newest installment in their Diablo franchise: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. At the end of Diablo III: Worlds of Destruction, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, Malthael, disappeared and now he returns as the Angel of Death bent on causing havoc to the world.

Players can choose to take on Act V and continue the adventure with the character they already made in the previous installment. This time however, the level cap is now raised to 70 and all new skills and abilities have been added to existing classes. In addition, you can also choose to play the new melee-warrior class: the Crusader, complete with heavy armor and a wide array of weapons to take down those who stand in his way. While naturally a tank class, the Crusader also has magic he can use to support allies and weaken enemies.

In this new expansion players will be able to enjoy new quests and monsters to defeat in new, more randomized environments. Blizzard also promises new improvements to the end game. Also, players can take time away from hunting Maltheal to enjoy two new game modes: “Loot Runs” and “Nephalem Trials” which will provide new challenges with great rewards.

As stated by Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment in the official press release:

“From the beginning, Diablo has always been about the struggle between good and evil, and Reaper of Souls explores the darker notes of that conflict. This expansion also represents a big milestone in the ongoing evolution of Diablo III, with key enhancements to the core gameplay, along with a new act to experience, a powerful new character class, tons of new loot, and even more end-game options. We think players will love playing Reaper of Souls, and we can’t wait to get it into their hands.”

Slated for release sometime in 2014 the expansion will require a full version of Diablo III as well as an internet connection in order to play. More info can be found at the official site and you can check out a new gameplay teaser video below:
