CoD: Black Ops Cold War Unleashes the Horde with Zombies Free Access Week

Fans will get a free week of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies starting on January 14.

For the first time, Treyarch is offering a free trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode during its Zombies Free Access Week. The Cold War Zombies trial runs from January 14 through January 21 and includes several modes, plus a save transfer option to carry data into the full game, should players purchase it.

Zombie Free Access Week’s first mode is Die Maschine, a traditional Zombies experience where players work in teams to uncover the secrets behind the otherworldly menace or die trying.

Cranked mode adds a new layer of tension to Die Maschine in the form of a destruction timer. The timer starts counting down once the first zombie dies, and the player’s operator explodes if they don’t fell another zombie before the timer reaches zero.

PlayStation owners can try an exclusive Zombies mode called Onslaught. This is a multiplayer mode for two players, tasking teams with surviving against waves of even more aggressive zombies than usual while the safe zone keeps shifting. Staying alive means unlocking special weapons blueprints that, like other progression data during Zombies Free Access Week, carry over to the main game for those who purchase it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Free Access Week coincides with Treyarch’s mid-season update for Black Ops Cold War, so there’s plenty to sink your teeth into for those who do decide to go whole hog and purchase the full game.
