Eric Hirshberg the CEO of Activision has stated,

Destiny is officially the biggest new franchise launch in our industry’s history. It’s also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history. We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation, and Activision’s next billion dollar brand.

Many people assumed that Destiny would sell well, but the sales are much better than anticipated. However, with all the big names that were behind Destiny, it would hard not to see it sell as well as it is. Everything fell into place for this game to have an outstanding launch. First and foremost, the game was developed by Bungie, the company known for the Halo series, which is synonymous for FPS games. Also, the backing of Activision, which has published the record breaking Call of Duty franchise, even going so far as to give people a free upgrade to PS4 and Xbox One consoles if they purchased it on PS3 or Xbox 360. Then on top of everything, Sony had partnered up with Activison to promote the game with their new console.

Just remember, these record sales are just day one. It will be quite the sight to see how far up the record charts this game goes as time continues.
