Our long-term goal in Dead Island 2 has been to reach Ocean Avenue, but it’s taken some lengthy detours. Our next trip through post-zompocalypse “Hell-A” takes us into the sewer system, which is every bit as awful as you’d think it’d be, as well as the Crusher-infested Venice Beach. Here’s how to get all the lockbox keys you’ll need in both locations.
You don’t have to go searching for the rest of the lockboxes in Dead Island 2. We’ve got guides on each lockbox and their respective key location:
- Bel-Air & Halperin Hotel
- Beverly Hills & Monarch Studios
- The Pier & Ocean Avenue
- The Metro & Hollywood Boulevard
Dead Island 2: Where to Get All Lockbox Keys in Brentwood Sewers and Venice Beach
Brentwood Sewers’ Lockboxes
BWRP Staff Drawers
On your first visit to the sewers, you may notice this locked toolchest in the office next to the Venice Beach sluice gate. If you revisit the same area later in the game, you may run into Felipe the Sewer Tech, a Slobber, hanging out in the tunnel outside the office. Take him out and grab his key.
BWRP Maintenance Toolbox
At the end of “Heart of Darkness,” you can easily spot this in the septic tank control room. The Butcher with the key can only be found later in the game, by venturing once again into the gross muck at the lowest layer of the septic tank.
Venice Beach’s Lockboxes
There are a lot of hidden lockboxes in Venice Beach, some of which have a few prequisites before they can be opened.
Rose’s Storage Box
Rose’s Tattoo, which is on the corner to the southwest from the Blue Crab Grill, isn’t as locked down as it looks. The switches next to its security shutters will raise them temporarily, although it takes a little timing to get under the shutter before it closes again.
Rose herself appears as a Screamer on the northeast side of the zone, in the abandoned security checkpoint near the bus depot (above). She seems to only spawn by day, and on your second visit to Venice Beach.
Her Storage Box, behind the counter in the store, contains the unique bat Black Magic.
Burger ’66 Staff Locker
The single intact Burger ’66 location in Hell-A is across the street from the Blue Crab Grill. The quiet way in is to destroy the yellow alarm sensor next to its sign, then kick out the window.
The Staff Locker is in the back room next to the counter, while the zombie with the key, the Burger ’66 Server, appears on the beachfront as a Slobber, next to the weird sculpture by the police station. The Locker contains a unique Mace, Gastric Bypass.
Officer’s Secure Lockbox

If you take the side quest “Cold Pork” from Trent at the Blue Crab Grill, you’ll be sent to break into the armory at the Venice Beach police station. While there, you’ll spot the Secure Lockbox on a shelf.
The Walker cop with the lockbox key, Officer McKenzie, is about 60 meters west from the police station. The Secure Lockbox always seems to contain a modified Nightstick.
Venice Lifeguard’s Safe
Continuing a theme of poor local security, there’s a lockbox in Lifeguard Hut 17, on the south edge of the map. Go further south from that, and take out Brody the Lifeguard, a runner who’s lurking at the edge of the water.
Tasty Donut Store Safe
You might find this key before the safe that matches it. The Tasty Donut Boss can spawn as a Slobber along the boardwalk, and he drops the Tasty Donut Safe Key. You can let yourself into the nearby Tasty Donut location by breaking the boarded-up windows. Its safe is hidden behind a pile of trash bags on the back wall.
Skate Things Store Safe
You can only get into this store after your fight with Dillon in “The Giant-Slayer.” The key to the safe behind the counter is held by Ollie, a Runner who appears at night in the playground in roughly the center of the zone.
Gang Green Safe
Gang Green is the marijuana dispensary in western Venice Beach, and you can’t get inside the store until you take on the late-game Lost & Found quest “Missing: Pablo.” That causes a named Walker, Doc Marin, to appear out front, who drops the key to the gate in the back.
Gang Green’s safe requires a different key altogether, which is held by Roach, a Walker who appears in central Venice Beach at night. He’s usually hanging out on the beach near the short graffiti’d walls.
Delgado’s Supply Chest
This lockbox, found in Rodriguez’s lifeguard tower by the fast-travel point, is unusual in that you don’t actually have to track down Delgado yourself.
At the end of the hidden post-game side quest “[REDACTED],” you can find Delgado’s corpse and lockbox key near the cremation pits outside the tower, near shipping container #66.
Lt. Land’s Case
After you’ve cleared “The Final Gauntlet,” you can backtrack to the military base on Venice Beach and find Lt. Land in the westernmost landing craft on the shoreline. She drops a key that you can take back to her chest in the officers’ barracks, which contains the blueprint for the Destructive weapon perk.
West Coast Weights Cooler
The cooler in question is in one of the concession booths at the strongman competition on the north end of the boardwalk. If you head over to the abandoned military checkpoint to its east, by night, you’ll find Jake Jones, a named Walker who drops the Strongman Cooler Key.
With that, you now know where all the lockbox keys are and can open all the lockboxes in the Brentwood Sewers and Venice Beach. For other guides, tips, and tricks, check out our dedicated Dead Island 2 hub.
