It looks as if Baldur’s Gate 3 will release this year in early access. The news comes from a financial briefing earlier this week in which Hasbro, the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, outlined their ongoing plans for everything from toys to video games. The report was held during the New York Toy Fair.
As expected, the company did not share an Early Access release date, though we do know the RPG sequel will release on Stadia on PC.
Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay will debut during PAX East, which is being held February 27 through March 1, though how much gameplay will be shown is currently unknown. The livestream gameplay will air on February 27 at 3:30 p.m. EST. There will be a Q&A session following the gameplay reveal.
Larian Studios, the makers of Baldur’s Gate 3, has shared a bit of footage for the game, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage outlining the studio’s high-level plans and the game’s development process. A trailer was first shared in 2019, and most recently, a gameplay was shared by the studio leasing up to the PAX East reveal.
In related news, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have confirmed that seven games in the D&D universe will release over the next several years, Baldur’s Gate 3 and a Dark Alliance game being two of them.
Wizards also recently launched a brand-new studio, Archetype Entertainment, headed by ex-Bioware devs to create expansive, narrative-driven games. It’s an easy bet this studio is also working on one of the teased D&D universe titles.
Baldur’s Gate 2 released for the PC way back in 2000. It saw a re-release in 2013. Divinity: Original Sin 2, another game developed by Larian Studios, was first released in Early Access in 2016.
