Dead Island 2 Lockbox Key Guide: The Metro and Hollywood Boulevard

Dead Island 2 goes Hollywood, figuratively and otherwise, in its final stretch. Here's where to find all the lockbox keys in the Metro and on Hollywood Boulevard.

The last two maps in Dead Island 2 are also two of the least complicated, but they’ve got plenty of secrets. Here’s where to find all the lockbox keys in the Metro and the Romeros award ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.

You’ve probably got more lockboxes to open, and we’ve got you covered on where they and their keys are:

Dead Island 2: Where to Get All Lockbox Keys in the Metro and Hollywood Boulevard

Unless otherwise mentioned, all the lockboxes in Dead Island 2 contain a randomly-determined weapon of at least rare quality, which is typically at or near your current level.

The Metro’s Lockboxes

Commuter Belongings

On a second visit to the Metro, you can find the Putrid Commuter, a Petrified Slobber, in the west tunnel. It’s typically standing in front of an abandoned subway car that you might’ve noticed earlier, because it’s covered with gross explosive blobs. Its key lets you into that car, so you can loot a suitcase towards the back.

Patient’s Lockbox

The Patient’s Lockbox shows up on a wooden spool in the flooded room on the east side of the Metro, where you had to navigate a big pool of electrified water during “The End of the Line.”

That water won’t still be electrified when you revisit the area, but the Derailed Patient with the key is a Voltaic Screamer, so that’ll fix that. She appears as soon as you walk into the flooded room, so be ready to get out of the water.

Hollywood Boulevard’s Lockboxes

After experimentation, it appears that the side quest “Going Viral” will overrule any named zombie spawns on Hollywood Boulevard itself, whether or not you’ve started it. If it’s available, you’ll need to finish it before any named zombies will appear in or around the Romeros setup.

Starla’s Awards Show Safe

On the east end of the bleachers, go around behind them and smash through the boarded-up doorway to find a small hidden room with Starla’s safe in it. If you explore Hollywood Boulevard by day, you’ll find Starla as a Crusher, who’s initially staring at the wall outside the Old Dynasty Theater like The Blair Witch Project.

Theater Box Office Safe

Go inside the Deth Rawk Bar and Grill, which is half-hidden underneath the glitched Omen to Kill billboard, and smash the crates to find a safe in the wall.

By night, Nick the Usher appears outside the portable toilets that are tucked behind the bleachers, south from Deth Rawk. The safe contains the blueprint for the Superior Ranged Puncturator weapon mod.

Custodian’s Locker

Unusually, the key for this lockbox isn’t on a zombie. Instead, if you complete the Lost & Found quest “Missing: Rainier,” you’ll find the key on a shelf in an otherwise-inaccessible utility closet in the subway station.

Eschaton Staff Safe

In the post-game, head back to the Metro stop on Hollywood Boulevard at night. A named Voltaic Screamer, the Eschaton Doctor, sometimes hangs out on its top level, and she’ll drop the key you need to open the lockbox in the hidden lab behind the Re-Aging Clinic. It contains the blueprint for the Superior Ranged Electrocutor weapon mod.

Metro Ticket Office Safe

You can open the ticket office in the subway station by destroying 3 nearby maglock panels. To get into its safe, you have to wait until after DI2‘s closing credits, when the Metro Ticket Taker spawns in the hidden Eschaton lab’s hallways as a Firestorm Slobber. It drops the Ticket Office Safe Key.

That’s it for the lockbox keys in Dead Island 2. Enjoy your loot, and if you need help with anything else in DI2, feel free to check out our dedicated guides hub.
