Stardew Valley Marriage Guide – How to Woo and Marry

Every video game farmer has to settle down sometime. Here's how to get married in Stardew Valley.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Look, let’s be real: everyone puts a ton of effort into wooing their villager of choice in these types of games. I’ve worked my butt off to get to the point of proposing in every Harvest Moon and Rune Factory game I’ve played, and you probably have too. It’s the nature of the genre.

Recommended Videos

Stardew Valley isn’t swimming in eligible marriage candidates, but it does have enough of a variety of personalities for anyone to be able to find at least one villager they want to marry.

A couple things to note about marriage in Stardew Valley:

  • Same-sex marriage is available
  • You must reach 10 hearts with one of these marriage candidates to propose — reach 10 hearts by talking to them regularly and giving them gifts they like or love
  • In order to propose, you must give them a bouquet and give them the Mermaid Pendant
  • After you’ve been married, your spouse will help you around the farm as long as they’re happy
How to get the Mermaid Pendant

Sometime after your house is upgraded, a Mysterious Man will appear on the beach on a rainy day and offer you the Mermaid Pendant.

About this guide

The listings for each eligible bachelor and bachelorette below are fairly simple. Each mentions where they are most often found, as well as their likes and dislikes, loves and hates.

Some likes and dislikes are basically universal and apply to the vast majority of villagers. You can check out those lists at the top of my general villager likes and dislikes guide. “General” items (like leafy green vegetables, all types of milk) are italicized.

If you want to get on the other villagers’ good sides, take a gander at my Stardew Valley villager likes and dislikes guide.
