In case you didn’t already know, GameSkinny loves Goat Simulator. It’s hilarious, one of a kind, and chock-full of goats – much like the studio that developed it, Coffee Stain Studios.
I recently had the pleasure talking to Armin Ibrisagic, game designer and PR manager at Coffee Stain, and asked him a few questions about goats, working on the game, and more goats.
What inspired Goat Simulator, and why goats?
Originally it was inspired from old school skating games from the 90s, except you’re a goat. Goats are the best.
What sort of research was involved? Were you particularly goat-savvy to begin with?
Yes, we have three goats working as consultants at Coffee Stain
What was your favorite/least favorite part about developing the game?
The development has been really amazing. Since the game is about goats, we’ve been pretty free to add whatever we can think of to the game. The jetpack was added on a lunch break by one of our artists, and now it’s a really iconic part of the game. Having pretty much no project plan and just letting people be creative has worked wonders for Goat Simulator.
Are you surprised by the positive response Goat Simulator has received?
Totally, we never expected people to like our game so much. We were surprised when we put up our first video and got 77,000 views overnight, now we have like 5.3 million views on our release trailer. Totally insane.
Are you worried that the goat violence depicted in Goat Simulatorwill inspire real life goat violence?
I’ll tell you, if a goat manages to play our game, I’ll let it headbutt me.
If human kids play our game and start thinking they’re goats and headbutting people, well, that would be pretty funny so we’re all for that.

Can we expect any Goat Simulator DLC?
Yes, and you can even expect it to be completely free.
Goat Simulator is also part of Steam Workshop – What kind of things are you hoping to see come out of that?
Well, we’ve seen Shrek Goat which got its own article at Kotaku. Now when we’re adding local splitscreen multiplayer, I think we’re going to see even more crazy mini-game type maps.
What’s next for Coffee Stain Studios?
We’re not completely sure yet, I guess we’ll just see how it goats.
